Yolanda People Finder

Yolanda People Finder

Google has launced a Person Finder that allows individuals to post messages and search for the status of family and friends affected by the disaster. If you're worried about someone, click on the button that says "I'm looking for someone" and type in their name.If you have information about someone in the area, or want to let others know you are safe click on the button " I have information about someone " and enter name and details.Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Typhoon Yolanda, was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded in the world history. It killed a total number of 6,300 people in the Philippines.

The typhoon is talked about on social networking sites and the storm became a trend world wide, dubbing that Typhoon Yolanda is one of the strongest typhoons in world history.Even finding people who is affected by the storm is easy with the internet. With just a few clicks away, you’ll know immediately what your loved ones are doing.Aside from the social media, Google offered a help to the Filipino people by allowing them to use their web application called Google Person Finder.Truly a wonderful and an educational article, not only to young people but to all concerned individuals. It can be very helpful, as well, especially during the times of crisis or disaster.

Google Person Finder has been activated for use following the deadly super typhoon Yolanda that devastated the Philippines including the Visayas regions and other nearby areas.
During typhoon Yolanda, the people finder was a vital tool for people across the globe to track the situation of their relatives. This proved to be successful and is now adapted by more organizations to help people track relatives during calamities. Ever heard of the typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines? The most powerful typhoon that is the first to ever hit up to signal  no. 4 and make a land fall to the Philippines.  The word “Intense” wont be a match to its description of  how devastating it was that  it brought so much  suffering to the citizens in the Philippines. The storm caused widespread destruction, even killing an estimated 10,000 individuals in the central Philippines, according to Reuters.

Million People March

Million People March

The so called Million People March was the first of an ongoing series of protests in the Philippines calling for the total abolition of the Pork Barrel fund, triggered by public anger over the Priority Development Assistance Fund scam. They want people to know that through internet or social media (mainly on Facebook and Twitter ) on August 26, 2013 at Luneta Park in Manila as well as other cities nationwide and overseas. Some media commentators consider this as the first ever massive rally in the Philippines called and organised mostly through social media channels. There were also several demonstrations that happened around key cities in the Philippines and some location overseas.

MANILA, Philippines Since the controversy surrounding the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam broke out, there has been a torrent of articles and photos that have linked the now fugitive Janet Lim-Napoles to several legislators. Most of the articles which first came out in the Philippine Daily Inquirer allege that Napoles put up a number of non-government organizations or NGOs that accept financial allocations from certain legislators’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) for projects. The NGOs turned out to be fake, with Napoles and the legislators themselves said to have pocketed the money.

With each expose, thousands of people have vented their anger through social media. Everyone’s timeline would show a link, an acerbic status post, and some excerpts from the recent Commission on Audit (COA) report on the PDAF allocations. Just like the steady wave of stories on Napoles, other angles have been coming to light. All of them, however, remain allegations.

EDSA Dos

EDSA Dos

The EDSA Revolution of 2001, also called by the local media as EDSA II (pronounced as EDSA Dos ) or the Second Power Revolution, is the common name of the four-day popular revolution that peacefully overthrew Philippine President Joseph Estrada in January 2001.He was succeeded by his then vice prisedent Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.It was fueled after 11 prosecutors of the President Joseph Estrada walked out of the impeachment trial. As a result, the crowd in EDSA grew over the course of a few days through text brigades. EDSA is an acronym derived from Epifanio de los  Santos Avenue, the major highway that encircles Metro Manila. The revolt took place in the business district of Ortigas Center.

William Overholt, a Hong Kong-based political economist said that "It is either being called mob rule or mob rule as a cover for a well-planned coup," "But either way, it's not democracy." It should also be noted that opinion was divided during EDSA II about whether Gloria Aroyo as the incumbent Vice-president should be president if Joseph Estrada was ousted; many groups who participated in EDSA II expressly stated that they did not want Arroyo for president either, and some of them would later participate in EDSA III.It must however be noted that the prevailing Constitution of the Philippines calls for the Vice-President of the Philippines, who at the time was Gloria Arroyo, to take the position of the President of the country during events that the current president cannot function in that capacity. During these demonstrations, Joseph Ejercito Estrada clearly was incapacitated, the government stifled, and that was even before the Armed Forces withdrew its support for him as president. 2006 a video showed that Arroyo had prepared the "EDSA" more than a year.

The Second EDSA Revolution (EDSA II) was a four-day political protest from 17–20 January 2001 that peacefully overthrew the government of Joseph Estrada, the thirteenth President of the Philippines. On January 17, 2001, the impeachment trial of President Estrada moved to the investigation of an envelope containing crucial evidence that would allegedly prove acts of political corruption by Estrada. Senators allied with Estrada moved to block the evidence. The conflict between the senator-judges, and the prosecution became deeper, but then Senate Majority Floor Leader Francisco Tatad requested to the Impeachment court to make a vote for opening the second envelope. The vote resulted in 10 senators in favor of examining the evidence, and 11 senators in favor of suppressing it. The list of senators who voted for the second envelope are as follows.

EDSA(People Power Revolution )

The Role of ICT in Recent History

 EDSA REVOLUTION

"People Power Revolution" is also tagged as the "EDSA Revolution","Bloodless Revolution"and "1986 Philippine Revolution".Despite the presence of tank-riding soldiers and big guns, not a single shot was fired. Thus,People Power Revolution was the first nonviolent, bloodless revolution that ever took place. It was not only in 1986 that there had been a mass gathering on EDSA.There was another massive gathering in which media commonly tags as EDSA 2 (EDSA DOS)on January 20001,which ousted then-President Joseph Estrada.Since Ninoy's assassination, yellow has been the color of the revolution.
Did you know that yellow is not really the favorite color of the late President Corazon Aquino?According to her interview in TIME,her favorite color was actually red.It was only when some friends suggested the song "Tie A Yellow Ribbon"for Ninoy's homecoming that she developed a fancy for the color.

In 1986 million of unarmed filipinos surprised the world by nonviolent overthrowing the brutal dictator Ferdinand Marcos, known at the time as "the Hitler of Southeast Asia".They called their movement "people power",demonstrating in an amazing way the power of active nonviolence, the power of truth and love, similar to what was seen in the gandhian freedom struggle in India and civil rights movement in the United States.

BLOODLESS REVOLUTION

Ferdinand Marcos ruled the philippine for two decades, using his position to amass a personal fortune. When Benigno Aquino-Marco's key political rival-was assassinated in 1983,cross-class opposition to the regime erupted.Marcos agreed to hold elections in 1986.Aquino's widow, Cory, ran against Marcos;no one was surprised when Marcos rigged the election.Millions responded, forming a human barricade between Marco's troops and the officers.Civil resisters encouraged the advancing soldiers to defect, After several days, the majority of troops joined the opposition movement. With no sanctioning power left,Marcos fled, and Aquino assumed the presidency.

YELLOW REVOLUTION

The term "Yellow Revolution"has been used to describe both the political revolution in the Philippines that took place between 1983 and 1986 and the dynamic increase in oilseed production India which began in 1986.It is also referred to as the Yellow Revolution due to the presence of yellow ribbons during the demonstrations following the assassination of Filipino senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino,Jr.It was widely seen as a victory of the people against the 20 years running authorian, repressive regime of then president Ferdinand Marcos, and made news headlines as "the revolution that surprised the world". The oversize color photograph shows a sea of people, many of them wearing yellow shirts and caps, waving yellow flags and banners, and in the foreground stands a woman in yellow dress, facing and addressing the crowd. The woman is Mrs. Corazon Aquino, and the occasion was the Thanksgiving Mass at Luneta Park to celebrate the triumph of the 1986 "People Power"Revolution in the Philippines. The color yellow came to represent the moderate forces in the struggle against the Marcos dictatorship and for the restoration of democracy.
